about

I was born and brought up just outside of London in Hertfordshire. When growing up, my parents used to take myself and my siblings to London for days out.
We used to arrive at Euston - therefore I have always considered Euston to be a kind of gateway to London. (In fact there used to be a Greek looking gateway at Euston which was demolished in the 1960s).
Occasionally I saw some things in London which frightened and disturbed me. In this song, 'Euston' has a voice and talks to the boy - introducing something of the darkness and malevolence of the city.
It segues into 'Warren Street'.

lyrics

Cheer up little boy!
This town will change and alter you little boy.
It carries on regardless little boy.
But it knows your here...

Welcome to the gate
There's not much room for kindness - but room for hate.
Hurry up get through - I'm taking you over

Let me go, let me go
The cobbled streets will haunt you forever
Memories itch like fleas
These are the years the moths have eaten.

And when we got off the train at Euston,
There was a real sense of happiness and anticipation -
What were we going to do?
But sadly, sometimes things went wrong.

Speak up little boy,
Your Mummy's calling you little boy.
Time to chew things over little boy.
Don't leave me alone

Let me go, let me go
The cobbled streets will haunt you forever
Memories itch like fleas
These are the years the moths have eaten.

Cracks down the cupboard door
Sisters huddled on the kitchen floor
Let's hope this storm subsides
Oh who cares, I think I'll go to...
